Exploring Panama - The Land Between the Seas
December 27, 2011 to January 3, 2012
We’ll begin this adventure in Panama City exploring the colorful areas of the Old Quarter of Casco Viejo and the quaint plazas and charming sidewalk cafes that adorn the city. We’ll travel across the Isthmus of Panama to the Caribbean province of Colon, board the Trans-Isthmian Train, and learn the history of the Panama Canal, one of the greatest engineering feats of the 20th century.
Panama is a curious but exhilarating combination of rich cultural influence, historical architecture, and diverse flora and fauna. It lies at the center of the world, its isthmus constituting the last part of a natural land-bridge between the North and South American continents. A highlight of the trip will be boarding the Pacific Queen at the Port of Balboa and journeying through the Panama Canal.
This adventure involves travel by train, plane and ship and offers special highlights that include the Castle of San Lorenzo, the historic town of Portobelo, the traditional Finca Lerida Coffee Estates, La Amistad International Park, and Sitio Barriles archeological site. Exquisite handicrafts, friendly people, colonial towns, incredible sightseeing, and amazing wildlife and bird watching await travelers on this unique journey.
