Meet a Huskie: Kimberly Moore ’01, M.M. ’04

Kimberly Moore, '01, M.M., '04

Thursday, Feb. 25

Join Kimberly Moore, ’01, M.M. ’04, as she talks about her love of tinkering and how it has shaped her engineering career.

Named one of Crain’s Chicago Business “40 Under 40” in 2018, Moore is president/founder of KDM Engineering based in Chicago, which provides consulting services on engineering projects.

Moore is among the first black women to graduate from NIU with an electrical engineering degree. She has made it her mission to create a diverse team at KDM, employing over 90 people and creating a company that also serves as an industry leader.

A fierce supporter of women and minorities in STEM, Moore also created Calculated Genius, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to helping underrepresented youth explore and connect to engineering. Focusing on giving back to the local community, Calculated Genius funds a summer STEM program for high school students attending Chicago Public Schools and provides scholarships to women pursuing STEM-related degrees at the collegiate level.

Kimberly also serves on the boards of directors of the Chicago Affirmative Action Advisory Board and the NIU Alumni Association.
