Kimberly Moore

bod-kimKimberly Moore,’01, M.M. ’04, founded KDM Engineering to provide consulting services on engineering projects. Under Moore’s guiding hand and unique leadership style, the company has become a proven leader in the industry, growing to more than 90 employees and successfully completing work on thousands of projects.


A fierce supporter of women and minorities in STEM, Moore also created Calculated Genius, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to helping underrepresented youth explore and connect to engineering. Focusing on giving back to the local community, Calculated Genius funds a summer STEM program for high school students attending Chicago Public Schools and provides scholarships to women pursuing STEM-related degrees at the collegiate level.


Kimberly also sits on the City of Chicago Affirmative Action Advisory Board. She has received several awards for her success in building KDM Engineering into the thriving company it is today, including recognition among “Enterprising Women of the Year” in 2018, Engineering News-Record’s “20 Under 40 National” in 2018, Crain’s Chicago Business “40 Under 40” in 2019, the ATHENA Emerging Leader Award in 2019, and the U.S. Small Business Administration Illinois Rising Star Small Business Award in 2020, to name a few.


Being among the first few black women to graduate from NIU with an electrical engineering degree, Kimberly has made it her mission to assemble a uniquely diverse team at KDM.
