Altgeld Hall: A Guided Tour of NIU's Landmark and Its Legacy Makers

Altgeld Hall

Saturday, October 10

Step inside Altgeld Hall during NIU's 119th Homecoming weekend, and discover the stories that helped shape the university's legacy as one of NIU's most iconic and historic landmarks.

Join NIU Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Professor Alicia Schatteman for a guided tour exploring the history, architecture and enduring impact of this treasured campus building. On Saturday, October 10, Schatteman will host two 45-minute tours, with the first session beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the final one at 11:30 a.m.

For 127 years, Altgeld Hall has stood as a testament to philanthropy, educational opportunity, artistic craftsmanship and architectural beauty. During this exclusive tour, guests will explore historic spaces throughout the building, learn how they have evolved over time and gain insight into the people whose vision and leadership helped establish NIU.

Whether you're fascinated by history, architecture, philanthropy or the individuals behind NIU's founding, this experience offers a unique opportunity to connect with the university's rich heritage and see a campus landmark from a new perspective. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
