The Internship Appreciation Luncheon is a great opportunity for the department to show appreciation to our internship partners. Over seventy internship supervisors, interns, faculty and staff attended the annual event to honor all of our excellent supervisors and students whose contributions elevate our national rankings.

Intern Alicia Schueller described their management style this way, “I have learned that being a leader is not about barking orders and intimidation as it is sometimes portrayed. Instead, it is about treating every one of your employees with respect and including them as valued members of your team. It is about going above and beyond what is expected of you so your employees can follow your example. It is about being the public servant that you want your employees to be.” We are very fortunate to have such excellent examples of public servants as internship partners.

Second year student, Stephanie Sias (Little City), was described by her intern supervisor, Kelly Holm, this way: “Stephanie’s drive and commitment, incredible integrity, work ethic, style, commitment to ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, and determination to make a difference serves as a role model for employees and leaders alike. She is one of my most trusted team members and go-to person when things need more than a cursory glance because I know it will get done well, on time, every time.”

Pamela Newton, described Max as part of the village team from his first day on the job. His engaging personality and strong work ethic have allowed him to contribute and not just observe and learn. The village is looking forward to continuing to have Max as an intern for another year.
