Charla with the Latino Alumni Council

The NIU Latino Alumni Council, in collaboration with the NIU Division of Academic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, invites you to an engaging charla on Northern Illinois University’s Hispanic-Serving Institution designation and how alumni are a part of an enriched comunidad.

Together, we will reflect on the journey and complexity of the HSI designation, share experiences and discuss what “servingness” means for alumni of NIU. As proud supporters of NIU’s journey to becoming a Hispanic-Serving Institution, the LAC invites you to share your stories and ideas during this charla and join future efforts that uplift our community.

This interactive conversation will highlight NIU’s journey to being an HSI, including what the designation entails, how it strengthens our existing student support systems, and the opportunities ahead for our community.

Participants will also learn about NIU HSI initiatives, partnerships with organizations such as Excelencia in Education and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, as well as ways for alumni to collaborate with and strengthen support for Latino students, staff and faculty.
