The Latino Alumni Council is focused on supporting Latino students and providing networking opportunities to alumni. The LAC hosts a variety of events for alumni each year, including networking workshops, cultural events and tailgating parties. Mission of the Council
The mission of the Latino Alumni Council is to maximize the academic and social experience of Latinos at NIU, to serve as a representative voice for Latino alumni and to assist in the unification of alumni efforts to further and support the interests of Northern Illinois University. These goals shall be accomplished through the following:
- networking, advocacy and actively engaging Latino members of the NIU community and others.
- maintaining and promoting a network for the empowerment and advancement of Latina/Latino/Latinx alumni at Northern Illinois University.
- sponsoring professional development opportunities and financial support via the LAC Engagement scholarship.

Philanthropy - LAC Engagement Scholarship Fund
LAC Engagement Scholarship Fund
The Latino Alumni Council launched the LAC Engagement Scholarship, tailored for students who are at a sophomore level or above, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and can demonstrate how their experiences have fostered an understanding of, and commitment to, addressing issues of diversity and inclusion in Latinx communities. The LAC led a strong crowdfunding effort during Latino Heritage Month that exceeded their goal and yielded over $3,500. The LAC is committed to continuing this effort and will raise funds through next year.
As alumni, we know the significance of a college degree not only for ourselves but what it means for our families and community and many of our lives have been significantly impacted by scholarship support. Your donations will make a difference in the lives of students by aiding their educational journey, promoting a positive experience at NIU, supporting their personal and career goals, and helping retain and graduate current and future Huskies.
We have many opportunities ahead to connect, give back, and hear from you as we continue building a strong network for our Huskies. Make sure to connect with us as there is much more to come!
