Dear Latino Alumni Council Members,

We find ourselves on the cusp of another refreshing season—spring. With the promise of renewal and growth that spring brings, we are equally excited to continue on our mission of networking, advocacy, and actively engaging Latino members of the NIU community.

Therefore, as the representative voice for Latino alumni, we are excited to announce the newly established “NIU LAC Engagement Scholarship.” The purpose of this scholarship is to celebrate and promote diversity while providing an inclusive platform for all students at NIU, and so is open to all students who meet the application criteria. We invite you to participate in Huskies United by donating to the NIU LAC Engagement Scholarship. Your generous donation will help further ensure an inclusive NIU community, empower the NIU Latino community, and grow the foundation for our collective legacy.

Latino Alumni Council Board Member Spotlight: Edgar Lopez, ’20, M.B.A. ’21

Edgar Lopez's experience as a first-generation Latino student directly influenced his choice on how to spend his volunteer efforts. Lopez is committed to paying it forward by mentoring students from similar backgrounds and supporting their professional development. He aims to support students in becoming better prepared, with the expectation that it will result in the creation of more opportunities for them.
