A Message From the Council

Dear NIU Greek Alumni,

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who was able to join us at this year's Homecoming and for everyone's
ongoing support of Northern Illinois University.

Like many of you, our involvement in NIU’s Greek system has greatly enriched our university experience and shaped our lives positively.

In recent years, NIU has made significant strides in enhancing the Greek system, creating a better environment for current and future members. This progress is largely thanks to dedicated alumni like you.

The NIU Greek Alumni Council is eager to strengthen our connection with fellow Greek alumni. Your support—whether by sharing events with your fraternity or sorority, attending alumni gatherings, serving as an Alumni Advisor, or joining the Council—can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you once again for your commitment to NIU and the Greek community. We look forward to seeing you at future events.

Major Step for the Center for Greek Life

In October, we were able to secure land, through the help of the NIU Foundation, for the new Center for Greek Life in the Annie Glidden North neighborhood (Greek Row). While we have just started the fundraising work on this, there is an opportunity for all Greek Huskies to play a part in making the Center a reality.

We urge you to reach out to Josh Binder at the NIU Foundation (jbinder@niu.edu) to find out more information.

Giving Back to the Community

This fall semester, the NIU Greek community has been quite active in social causes through philanthropic efforts and direct service. The brothers of Phi Kappa Theta hosted their annual “Phlapjacks with the Kaps” event raising funds for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Panhellenic Council (PHC) hosted Women’s Tugs in November and we must give a huge shoutout to the incredible tuggers from Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and Sigma Sigma Sigma for their amazing performances. Congratulations to Alpha Sigma Alpha for taking home first place! Proceeds from the event went to the Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association.

In addition, the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) hosted a winter food drive in November benefiting Hope Haven, the local homeless shelter, as another reminder how Greek students are making an impact in the DeKalb/Sycamore community every day.

Homecoming 2024

Homecoming 2024 was full of opportunities for us to see old friends and make new ones at the Friday afternoon site visit for the new Center for Greek Life, the Friday evening Center for Greek Life Kick-off and the game day Greek Life tent which attracted more than 180 alums during the course of the day. Thank you to all who came out for the festivities!

Also of note, National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) leaders with assistance from Student Affairs and Athletics staff came together to produce “Rep Yo Step,” the annual Homecoming Step Show. Alumni and supporters filled the Convocation Center with energy and enthusiasm. This year’s show exemplified the spirit of unity through competition. Congratulations to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for their winning performances.
