Antonio Torres, '24, Values Connections and Brings New Energy as NIU Latino Alumni Council Secretary

Antonio Torres, '24, is already making his mark as the new secretary of the Latino Alumni Council.
While at NIU, Torres studied political science and found his home and identity through Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc., where brotherhood, service and cultural pride shaped some of his fondest memories.

NIU Alumni Tailgate at Chicago Fire FC

Join the Latino Alumni Council and the Greek Alumni Network for a night of soccer, community and Huskie pride as the Chicago Fire FC takes on St. Louis CITY SC!
Attendees will be invited to bring their favorite dish for our potluck-style tailgate as they connect with fellow alumni, then cheer on the Fire!

Latino Heritage Month Is Around the Corner!

We’re excited to share that we’re already planning for Latino Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) this fall. It’s a time to honor our culture, our stories, and the incredible contributions of Latino communities.
This year, we’re focused on growing our LAC Engagement Scholarship to help support students at NIU. Now is the perfect time to show that Latino alumni stand behind the next generation of Huskies. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a real difference.

LAC Engagement Scholarship Recipient

As a first-generation college student, Noemi Jasso felt it an incredible honor and a significant milestone in her academic journey to be selected for the LAC Engagement Scholarship. To Noemi, this award meant she could fully concentrate on her studies without the constant worry about financial constraints. The impact of this scholarship is immense and ensures that Noemi will have the opportunity to graduate and pursue her dreams.

The LAC Engagement Scholarship supports students who demonstrate a commitment to the Latino/x community and characteristics of leadership and academic and professional potential. This fund celebrates and promotes diversity while providing an inclusive platform for all students at the university. The LAC Engagement Scholarship awarded two students for the 2025-2026 academic year. Thank you for your generosity and support!
