The fall semester is upon us and the Black Alumni Council has a bevy of fun-filled events and educational activities scheduled. We hope that you can participate in some if not all of them as proud Black alumni and friends of NIU. In this newsletter, you will find information on our upcoming events, like the Black Alumni Reunion Picnic in Chicago (Sept. 3), NIU’s 116th Homecoming (Oct. 8-15), and the Fanny Ruth Patterson scholarship fundraising efforts. We are also excited to feature the College of Business Black Alumni Mentoring and Dr. G’s Mentoring programs as well as spotlight articles on Black alumni and university staff.
We hope you enjoy staying connected and will join us in making all events and NIU more successful than ever!

NIU Black Alumni Council Reunion
|
|
Join alumni, friends, and leadership for the annual Black Alumni Council Alumni picnic on Sunday, Sept. 3 from noon to 7 p.m. at the Dan Ryan Woods (Groves 6 and 7). With your $25 individual gift or $150 gift from your organization to support the Fanny Ruth Patterson Scholarship Fund, you are welcome to pitch up to a 10x10 tent on the picnic grounds.
The Fanny Ruth Patterson scholarship has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving students in the last 30 years and fundraising to support the next class of students has begun! Last year, Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc. bested all other Greek and student organizations at NIU, making over $6,000 in donations to the Fanny Ruth Patterson scholarship. Can your organization take the crown this year?

Friday, Oct. 13
Get together on campus for Trap Karaoke and Meet & Greet Mixer from 7-10 p.m. in Altgeld Hall, then Bowling and Billiards from 10:30 p.m.-1 a.m. in the Huskie Den.
Saturday, Oct. 14
Before cheering on Coach Thomas Hammock and the Huskies during the Homecoming game, connect with the Center for Black Studies, the CHANCE Program, and alumni from your favorite Greek and student organizations during the alumni tailgate from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. located near Central Park & East Lagoon. Keep the party going during the day party from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Duke Ellington Ballroom, and close out the festivities during the Center for Black Studies Kickback from 11 p.m.-3 a.m. at the Center for Black Studies!
Sunday, Oct. 15
Connect during brunch from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Patterson Hall Cafeteria.

The program is centered on the dual goals of strengthening alumni connections with the College of Business and placing students on the path to success. Interested in becoming a mentor?
