NIU Center for Greek Life
NIU’s leadership, alumni and the City of DeKalb are working together to revitalize Greek Life at NIU. These efforts, focused on how to uplift the Greek community, recently culminated in NIU’s commitment to constructing the Center for Greek Life. The center is designed to support all current and past NIU fraternities and sororities and their vast networks of alumni.
Visit campus during NIU’s 117th Homecoming to meet up with your fellow brothers and sisters and learn more about the NIU Center for Greek Life and the Greek Life revitalization efforts at NIU.

Student Life Highlight
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is excited to announce that 15 students have been selected to serve as Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) Ambassadors for the 2023-2024 academic year. The NIU FSL Ambassador Program is a yearlong volunteer initiative designed for dedicated Greek community members to represent and enhance fraternity and sorority life on campus.
Ambassadors play a crucial role in FSL marketing, recruitment, and programming, serving as key liaisons between the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the broader community, including current students, prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni. Responsibilities include promoting the benefits of Greek life, staying informed about all councils (IFC, MGC, NPHC, PHC), attending training sessions, and participating in events such as summer orientation and Week of Welcome. Selection is based on an application reviewed by FSL staff, requiring a minimum GPA of 2.25 and at least one year of chapter membership, with a cap of two ambassadors per chapter.

Additionally, we recognize the crucial role our chapter advisors play and are committed to enhancing communication and providing the resources they need to succeed. We look forward to collaborating closely with advisors to foster a thriving, supportive environment for all our fraternity and sorority members. If you are currently serving in an advisory capacity, please let us know by contacting the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at fsl@niu.edu.

When Richard Slonski graduated from NIU with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology and a political science minor in 2008, he wanted to be a police officer. To stand out from the competition, he decided to join the Army. That decision ended up changing the trajectory of his career to entering the healthcare field. Read his full story here.
